Trip Overview

Tamang Heritage Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is a scenic trek to the green midlands of the Langtang region. This is a newly opened trekking route between Langtang and Ganesh Himal. The trail passes through various culturally rich villages. Also, you can get insights into the Tamang community, their religion, cultures, customs, and lifestyle. Besides that, the trek is full of natural glories. The lush terraced farmlands, hills; forests are also the part of this trek. The trail posses dense bamboo forests and rhododendron forests. Hence, this forest gives a glimpse of the wildlife of the Langtang region.

The monasteries, palaces, temples are the other main attractions of the trek. A hike through the alpine yak pastures is another nice thing about this trek. Then again the famous cheese factory sacred in the indigenous ethnic settlement is something not to miss. And another most important part of this trek is the yak farming. On the whole journey, you can see yak everywhere. This region is also famous for its large glaciers and landmasses. Therefore, it is home to various holy lakes among which include very famous Gosaikunda lakes.

The trek commences from Syabrubensi after a day-long drive from Kathmandu. In several places, during the trek, you can see the culture of the Tamang community, Tibetan culture, festivals, traditional architecture, costumes, and languages. This trek can be an experience of seeing diversity in the culture of Nepal. Not to forget, the local Syabru dance, one of the highlights of this trek. Besides, the view from the Goljung pass is also very beautiful and awesome. Since the locals are engaged in agriculture and making handicrafts, you may find handmade stuff in the village market. We pass other villages like Briddhim, Thulo Syabru, Gosaikunda lake, Gupte, Gul Bhanjyang and end our journey at Sundarijal via Chisapani.

Day 1: Arrival Day
As you arrive at the airport in Kathmandu, your guide will pick you up and escort you to the hotel for check in. You will be explained about your plans ahead. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu and trek preparation
We start our day with a sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu. We visit the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. First, we visit the Kathmandu Durbar Square and then head towards Swayambhunath temple. Next, we visit Pashupatinath temple and conclude our tour admiring the stupa at Boudhananth. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Drive to Syabrubensi(2160m): 5-6 hrs
Early in the morning, we head towards Syabru bensi. After thirty kilometres drive, we arrive at the pristine villages on the banks of Trishuli river. At Syabru bensi, we can get a glimpse of mountains like Mt. Annapurna, Mt Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and other ranges in the Lantang region of Nepal. Overnight at a guesthouse in Syabru bensi.
Day 4: Syabru Besi – Gatlang(2298m)
Today, we start our trekking journey and continue walking towards Gatlang. We walk for around six hours through Tamang villages like Goljung and terraced fields to Galtang. On our way, we visit a popular Tamang monastery and stunning Parvatikunda Lake. Overnight at a guesthouse in Galtang.
Day 5: Gatlang to Tatopani(2607m)
The day is quite hectic as it will be the longest walking day of our entire trip. At first, we descend down to Thangbuchet, that lies near Chilime village near the Bhotekoshi river. We take our lunch here and cross a hanging bridge over a river. We then ascend up until we reach Tatopani. The literal meaning of Tatopani in English is hot water. The name resembles with the place as the place consists of natural hot springs. We can enjoy hot water bath at Tatopani. It is believed that a bath at Tatopani will take away your pains and body aches. Overnight at a guesthouse in Tatopani.
Day 6: Tatopani to Thuman(2338m)
Today our trail ascends up to Nagthali Danda. We stop at Brimdang village for lunch and ascend up until we reach the Danda. Nagthali Danda is a high open grassland that offers amazing views of snow covered Himalayas. We can spend some time admiring the views of mountains from the top of the hill and rest for a while. From the Danda, we continue our trail down to Thuman. Thuman is a Tamang village where we can find the influence of Tibetan culture. The people in the village are friendly and hostile. Overnight at a guesthouse in Thuman.
Day 7: Thuman to Timure(1762m)
We walk for around five hours to reach Timure. Rasuwagadi is near to Timure, therefore, you can even visit Ransuwagadi if interested. Trekking from Thuman to Timure is an opportunity to observe the Tibeto Burman Tamang culture. We can find the influence of this unique culture in the villages we pass by. Timure is actually an old trade route to Tibet. At Timure, there is a fort that reminds us the historical relation between Tibetan and Nepalese that has existed since many centuries. There is a suspension bridge that links Nepal to Tibet. We stay at a guesthouse in Timure for the night.
Day 8: Timure to Briddhim(2229m)
Leaving Timure, we head towards Briddhim. Along the way, we can experience the unique village life of people. We can enjoy the cultural programs performed by the locals and explore the Tamang culture from very close. Briddhim is a village that lies on the base of Lantang Himal and we can find the influence of Tibetan Buddhist culture throughout our trek. There are few houses in the villages and most of them are made up of stone and have thatched roofs. We stay at a guesthouse in Briddhim for the night.
Day 9: Briddhim to Sherpagaun(2563m)
Leaving Briddhim, we follow our trail to Sherpagaun. Sherpagaun is a small hamlet from Briddhim VDC located in Lantang National Park, the northern part of Nepal, near Tibet and the Himalayas. In Sherpagaun, we can see some crop fields, cattles and motels to cater the needs of tourist. Overnight at a guesthouse in Sherpagaun.
Day 10: Sherpagaun to Thulo Syabru(2200m)
We continue our trail to Thulo Syabru. We trek down to Bamboo and walk futher until we come to a pint which bifurcates into two paths. Amongst the path, one heads to Thulo Shyabru and another to Syabrubesi. We take left trail and climb up hill until we reach Thulo Syabru. Thulo Syabru is a sherpa village in that area. Overnight at a guesthouse in Thul Syabru.
Day 11: Thulo Syabru to Cholangpati
Today we trek to Chandanbari. We first climb through the oak, fir and hemlock forests to Foprang danda. From the hill, we can get great views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal range along with Tibetan mountains. On our way, we explore the cheese factory and a Buddhist Monastery at Sing gompa. We follow a rugged trail with outstanding views of Himal Chuli, Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and even Annapurna range to Cholangati, a famous spot for spectacular mountain views. Overnight at a guesthouse in Cholangpati.
Day 12: Cholangpati to Gosaikunda(4381m)
We further walk ahead to Laurebinayak La. The views of the mountains from this point is simply outstanding. The lakes embedded in the dry terrain of Gosaikundd from the pass is astonishing. We cross the pass and move ahead to Gosaikunda. We can see several azure and serene lakes at Gosaikunda. Amongst the several lakes, the major three are Shakti Kunda, Bhairab kunda and Gosaikunda. Gosaikunda is holy pilgrimage lake and is a frequent destination of Hindu pilgrims. Overnight at a guesthouse in Gosaikunda.
Day 13: Explore at Gosaikunda Lake.
Today we spend our day exploring the lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin. The main three lakes amongst all are Surya kund, Bharab Kunda and Gosainkunda. According to legend, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world. There are few tea houses and lodges at the lakeside. Gosaikunda lake is a sacred lake where people gather during the month of August to worship Lord Shiva. A big fair is held every year during this month on full moon day. Overnight at a guesthouse in Gosaikunda
Day 14: Gosaikunda to Phedi
We continue our trail from Gosaikunda to the northern side of the lake. We cross a moraine and pass three smaller lakes. We continue our walk until we reach The trail leads to the northern side of Gosaikunda Lake, crosses a moraine, passing three more small lakes; you will reach Laurebinayak La at 4610 m. From the pass, we descend down to the National Park Post at Bhera Goth and then to Phedi. Overnight at a guesthouse in Phedi.
Day 15: Phedi to Ghopte(3440m)
Leaving Phedi, our trail drops down for a while and then climbs up through scrub bamboo thickets to Dupichaur. We then descend down and walk along the trail until we reach Ghopte. Overnight at a guesthouse in Ghopte.
Day 16: Gopte to Magen goth(3200m)
We descend down from Ghopte. As we descend down, the trail winds through several ups and down and across the moraines. We make a final ascend up until we reach Tharepati. As we walk along, we observe the fine scenery along our path. Leaving Tharepati, our trail proceeds through the forests to Magen Goth. Overnight at a guesthouse in Magen goth
Day 17: Magen goth to Gul Bhanjyang(2130m)
Leaving Magen goth we continue walking towards Panghu. From here, our trail descends down through fir and rhododendron forest in the backdrop of beautiful and glittering mountains peaks. As we move forward, we reach Khutumsang. We finally descend down until we reach a jovial village of Gul Bhanjyang. Overnight at a guesthouse in Gul Bhanjyang.
Day 18: Gul Bhanjyang to Chisapani(2194m)
We continue walking along the forested ridge and climb up to Thodang Betini and then to Chipling. We then make a very steep descent so that our trail heads towards Pati Bhanjyang. It is a small village of Brahman and Chhetri peole. We further proceeds to Chisapani where we will be blessed with awe inspiring views of mountains and the sunrise amidst the pinnacles of Himalayas. Overnight at a guesthouse in Chisapani.
Day 19: Chisapani - Sundarijal(1460m)
Leaving Chisapani, we continue our route through oak and rhododendron forest to Borlang Bhanjyang. After walking along the stone paved stairway, we reach the Army check post where the army personnels will check our permit tickets. After entering our name in the records, we walk to Mulkharka where we can get a fascinating view of Kathmandu valley. We then descend down the forest to Sundarijal. As we arrive in Sundharijal, we drive along the concrete road to Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu
Day 20: Free day in Kathmandu
A free day in Kathmandu. We can either rest or stroll around the city for shopping and exploration. We can also visit the places for sightseeing in Kathmandu if interested. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 21: Departure Day
Your guide will escort you the airport before your scheduled flight for your journey ahead.
