The journey of Rara Lake Trek starts with a sightseeing tour to UNESCO listed world heritage sites in Kathmandu. Then you will take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then to Jumla. Jumla is one of the most remote places in Nepal. The trail to Rara Lake is an off beaten path. Even though the trek to Rara lake trek is famous but it has less crowd than Everest and Annapurna. Rara lake is the largest lake of Nepal that lies at an altitude of 3050m within the periphery of Rara National Park. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day
A representative from Himal Eco Treks will pick you up at the airport. You will then be transferred to a hotel in Kathmandu. Check in at the hotel and make yourself feel comfortable at the hotel. Our representative will let you know about the itinerary plan ahead. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing tour and Trek preparation
Early in the morning, after breakfast, your guide will pick you up at the hotel for a sightseeing tour to the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. At first, you will be transferred to Kathmandu Durbar Square for a wonderful cultural exploration. You can get some insights on art, culture, and history of Nepal as you visit the place. Then you will be transferred to Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath temple, and Boudhanath stupa respectively where you can enjoy the mixture of Hindu and Buddhist culture in a single go. You can also prepare for any last minute items required for trekking ahead. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Fly to Nepalgunj
Early in the morning, after breakfast, your guide will pick you up at the hotel for a sightseeing tour to the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. At first, you will be transferred to Kathmandu Durbar Square for a wonderful cultural exploration. You can get some insights on art, culture, and history of Nepal as you visit the place. Day 4: Fly to Jumla and trek to Chala Chaur
Get ready for another flight to Jumla today. After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to Nepalgunj airport where you catch a flight to Jumla. After the flight, you will land on one of the most remote places in Nepal. You can feel the remoteness of the place as soon as you reach Jumla. Initiating actual trekking journey, we leave Jumla and enter into the small village popular as Mircha. The village is enclosed with small walls on all side and has a number of stupas that dates back to 15th century. We further walk along a rocky trail until we reach Chala Chaur. We stop at Chala Chaur for the day.
Day 5: Cross the pass
As we leave Chala Chaur, we take a path that goes up through steep well-paved stones. On the way, we traverse through some beautiful forest of birch and pine. As we move up, we can see a slow change in the vegetation as well. The forest goes out of sight and we can find beautiful grasslands on our site. As we reach the pass, we can get some magnificent views of Mt. Kanjiroba. From the pass, we descend down along the forested area to the meadows for the night.
Day 6: Trek to Botan via Sinja
We follow the trail that goes along Jaljala river and traverses through the beautiful forest of pine and terraced farmland. We also visit a popular temple known as Kanak Sundari. The temple is believed to be built 300 years ago. This ancient temple is highly valued by the Hindu pilgrims. After visiting the temple, we continue through the trail along the river and cross a bridge over the river. After that, we descend down until we reach the village of Sinja. Sinja was a capital city of Malla kings during their regime. The land of Sinja is very alluvial and best for farming. As we pass Sinja village, we make our way via the trail to Botan.
Day 7: Trek to Rara Lake Border
Leaving Bota, we follow a trail along the Ghatta river. The landscape of Mother Nature is purely divine as you walk up to the border of Rara lake. The scenic route offers some marvelous views of valleys, forests, rivers, mountains, farmlands and many others. Today, we move ahead into the Rara National Park. We find ourselves walking into the periphery of the park. If lucky we will be able to observe the natural richness of the park from very close. The diverse variety of floras and faunas are best things to observe during your travel inside the national park.
Day 8: Trek to Rara Lake (3050m)
Today, we leave Gorong Shingha and walk up towards the Ghurchimara ridge. The ridge at 3170 meters offers some fascinating views of surrounding places along with the azure Rara lake. The path looks difficult but is not as difficult as it looks. From the ridge, we descend down appreciating the glory of surrounding amidst the birch, rhododendron and bamboo forests. No sooner, we will find the outstanding lake of Rara right in front of us.
Day 9: Rest day at Rara
Today, we spend our full day at Rara lake. The place is so much relishing and pristine to be at. We azure and tranquil water of the lake adds peace to the mind. You can also enjoy your time by exploring the villages nearby. It can be a wonderful opportunity to be some insights on people, their culture, and custom whoever is residing in those areas. Early in the morning, you can get some fresh views of hills, mountains, and lakes. You can also opt for swimming in the lake if interested.
Day 10: Trek to Jhyari to River camp
Today, we leave the lake and march forward towards the river camp. From the camp, we cross and ridge and make our way towards the Jhyari village. as we pass the village, we descend down to the Jhyari river and walk along the terraced farmland until we reach a valley of Dhauligar Khola.
Day 11: Cross Ghurchi Lagna Pass and trek to Chautha
Leaving Dhauli Khola, we walk along the farmlands and enter into the beautiful village of Pina. The village is small with a police check post and few hotels that cater the need of accommodation. We leave the village and climb up to Ghurchi Lagna Pass. From the pass, we traverse through various pastures, Chortens and narrow village to Chautha.
Day 12: Tharamara
Today, we leave Chautha and make our way to Sinja river. We pass a clinic and hotel located in the dramatic location on the way. The clinic and hotel lies on the hanging massive of a rock at Kabra. The place is believed to be an ore for a medicinal mineral that is the cure to anything. From here, we move ahead and pass the villages of Burma and Nyawre to the pastures of Tharamara.
Day 13: Trek to Jumla
Leaving Tharamara, we follow a path that slopes gently upwards towards Jumla. On the way, we pass Khali Lagna and some trees of birch and pine to Danphe Lekh. From the top of the ridge, we will be able to get some magnificent views of mountains and Jumla village. we descend down from the ridge and make our way to Jumla village which is the same place where we had started our trekking journey earlier.
Day 14: Fly to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu respectively
Today, we will take an early flight from Jumla to Nepalgunj. As we reach Nepalgunj, we take another flight in the afternoon to Kathmandu. You will be transferred from the airport to your hotel. Spend the remaining time on your own.
Day 15: Rest day at Kathmandu
After fifteen days long travel around Nepal and from Rara lake, we have set aside a free day in Kathmandu for you. On this day, you can either rest at your hotel to get rid of all the tiredness or else, you can enjoy sightseeing tours to Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar squares. You can also enjoy shopping at different places in Kathmandu today.
Day 16: Departure Day
Your trip to Rara lake with us comes to an end today. We will drop you at the Kathmandu airport before your scheduled flight for your journey onwards. If you loved our companionship, we hope to see you again.
