Mt. Kailash & Lake Mansarovar Trek via Limi valley is a spiritual journey that takes you to an elevation of 6.714 m / 22,028 ft. This classic journey is a blend of natural beauty, mountains, mountain lakes, Tibetan plateaus, and spirituality. Mount Kailash is a sacred place yet very popular among the people who follow Hindu, Buddhist and Jain religion. You may also find written about this place in the holy book of each religion. For instance, Hindu mythology claims Mount Kailash is abode place of Lord Shiva where he resides with his wife Parvati.

Likewise, Buddhist believe that it is a place where tantric Guru Milarepa did meditation for years. Similarly, as per Jain myth, it is a place where Rishavdeva accomplishes liberation. Hence owing to its religious value, many pilgrims around the world visit this place every year to perform Kora.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrive at the airport after clearing your immigration and via procedure. A representative from Himal Eco Trek will pick you up and escort you to the hotel for check in. Enjoy our night at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu
Get an authentic taste of the history, culture, and art of Nepal at the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. Visit Kathmandu's Durbar Square and head towards Swayambhunath Stupa. Experience the unique aspect of Hindu culture in Pashupatinath temple and go to the highest stupa in the world—Boudhanath stupa. As you conclude your guided tour, return back to the hotel. Enjoy your night at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Patan Sightseeing Tour
After viewing the heritage sites in Kathmandu, we head towards the UNESCO listed heritage site in Patan. Patan Durbar Square is the major attraction of the day. Experience the authentic art and architecture in the old buildings and temples of Nepal. The palace, built in the Malla period of Nepal, reflects the grand lifestyle of the kings in that period. Visit Krishna Temple and Patan Dhoka Museum. The museum contains various objects of ancient importance. After exploring the Patan Durbar Square, we return to Kathmandu. We can visit the busy streets of Kathmandu and get dissolved in its chaotic nature. Enjoy your night at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 4: Fly to Nepalgunj
Fly to Nepalgunj. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to a hotel for check-in. Take a rest for a while, and you will be escorted to the Tharu villages nearby in the evening. Explore the unique culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the Tharu people as you walk down the streets.
Day 5: Nepalgunj to Simikot (Dharapuri)
Today we take a flight to Simikot. As we reach Simikot, we initiate our trekking journey. We walk for around three hours until we reach Dharapani. We stay at a guesthouse in Dharapani for the night.
Day 6: Dharapuri – Kermi – Salli khola (3150m)
We leave Dharapani and follow our trail to Kermi. On the way, we will get a glimpse of a waterfall. We pass the waterfall and follow the Karnali river to Kermi. The potato, buckwheat, and barley fields along the way are enchanting. We walk along the levelled path and pass a police check post and Thakuri village on our way to Salli khola. Today, we stop at a camp set up near Salli khola at 3150m for an overnight stay.
Day 7: Salli khola – Camp (3150m) to Chongsa Khola Camp (3600m)
Leaving the camp, we move forward until we reach a pass called Salle pass. Here we come across two paths, one that takes us right to flat land and the other that leads us down the trail. Today, our path ascends and goes downhill as we walk through the forests of pine and rhododendron. We continue walking until we reach Chongsa Khola Camp for an overnight stay.
Day 8: Chongsa Khola Camp to Nyalu la camp
As we leave Chongsa Khola camp, we should be prepared for a challenging day today as our trail turns steep to flat to steep again. At first, our trail ascends steeply. The path is quite rocky, so you should be ready to exhilarate yourself a bit. On our way, we get a glimpse of a beautiful way from where our trail runs flat. In clear weather, you can expect to see Mt. Kailash and the Tibetan plateaus on the way. At the end of your journey today, you may again have to climb steeply for a while until you reach Nyalu la camp. Overnight stay at Nyalu La Camp.
Day 9: Nyalu la camp to Takchi camp
The views of Api Saipal Himal from Nyalu la are astonishing. Today, we cross the Nyalu la pass and head towards Talung camp. As we cross the Nyalu la pass, the sacred Mt. Kailash becomes more visible to us. Our trail now descends and passes through a beautiful landscape until we reach Takchi camp, which will be our halting point for the night.
Day 10: Takchi camp to Jang
Leaving Takchi, we walk along the valley, admiring the beauty that this valley possesses. On the way, we cross a river camp that lies near a hot spring. Our walk for the day can be quite long, but the walk will be quite interesting as we will find ourselves walking by the gurgling Talung river. We pass the Gumayuk and Majue Patan and cross a bridge over the Talung river to Jang, where we set up our camps for the night.
Day 11: Trek to Halji
Today, we head towards Halji. We climb up to Halji Danda and visit Rinzin Ling Gompa, which is a popular gompa in this area. We can see the giant chorten and long prayer flags here, which make the whole environment colorful and spiritual. We spend our nights at a tented camp in Halji.
Day 12: Trek to Til
Leaving Halji, we head towards Til. Today, we pass various villages on the way; therefore, our day will be well spent exploring the beauty that lies in these Tibetan villages. We pass villages, potatoes and buckwheat fields with a few ups and downs to Til. We set up our camp at Til for an overnight stay.
Day 13: Manipema to Sera and drive to Purang
Today our trail goes uphill through a rocky cliff. Our trail then winds up and down along a narrow path to Manipema. Here we will meet our crew, waiting for us with a ride. We join them and take a drive along the Tibetan landscape to Purang. Overnight stay at a tented camp in Purang.
Day 14: Purang to Mansarovar lake
We leave Purang and take a drive to Mansarovar lake, enjoying the fascinating views of the Tibetan plateau. On reaching the Mansarovar lake, we wandered around the area, witnessing the beauty of Mt. Kailash and other surrounding lakes like Rakshyasa tal and others. We spend our day taking photographs and swimming. In the evening, we set up our camp near the lake and spend our nights beneath the stars, amidst the beauty of nature.
Day 15: Drive to Tirthapuri
Today, we head towards Tirthapuri. Our drive will obviously be a wonderful one, nothing less than a natural exploration. Upon arrival, we set up camp at Tirthapuri for an overnight stay.
Day 16: Free day at Tirthapuri
Today is a free day at Tirthapuri. There is a hot water spring in this place, so you can spend your time taking a hot water bath and cleaning yourself. In the afternoon, we visit Padma Shambhaba cave and a monastery built there. We perform Kora around the cave and return back to our camps for the night.
Day 17: Tholing and Tsaparang
Leaving Tirthapuri, we head towards the ancient Guge Kingdom of Tibet. The view of western Tibet along the way is fabulous. More interesting are the historic Dongpo, Dawa, and Mangang that we pass along the way to Tzada, a village near Tsaparang and Toling Gompa. We set our camp at this location for the day.
Day 18: A day in Tholing
We have set a full day at Tholing to visit Tholing gompa and Tsaparang which holds the history of 11th century. At first, we head to Tholing gompa. This is an ancient gompa built in 11th century and is a valuable treasure of western Tibet. The art, culture and architecture reflected in this monastery is phenomenon. Next, we visit is Tsaprang which is the ancient capital of Guge Kingdom. These regons are completely secluded from today’s modern world. We can see the caves and pathways to mineral deposits built here in ancient era. Guge was a kingdom discovered a thousand years ago by one of the three sons of Lang Darma, the anti- Buddhist King. White Palace Red Palace, Yamantaka Chapel, Tara Chapel and Mandala Chapel are some of the major attractions here which are known to have linked with the Sakyamuni Buddha, King Songsten Gampo and other historic figures.
Day 19: Drive back to Darchen
Today, we head back to Darchen via the same route. Overnight at Darchen.
Day 20: Trek to Derapuk
Today is an exciting day as we ascend Mt. Kailash from Darchen. We prepare a small bag pack for our trekking journey and carry it with us. We continue walking around Mt. Kailash to Derapuk. We set up our camp at Derapuk for an overnight stay.
Day 21: Trek to Zutrulphuk via Dolma La pass
We wake up early in the morning and fuel ourselves with breakfast for an interesting journey ahead. We will ascend for around three hours today until we reach the Dolma La pass. The Dolma la pass lies at 5360 m above sea level. From this pass, we gradually descend to Zutrulphuk. We stay at a camp in Zutrulphuk for the night.
Day 22: Drive back to Darchen via Mansarovar lake
Today, we complete our Kora as we drive back to Darchen via Mansarovar Lake. Overnight stay at a camp in Darchen.
Day 23: Drive to Zhongba
Now, we are in the phase of returning from our journey. Today, we drive to Zhongba, applauding the scenic landscape of Manisar, Payang, and Bhramaputra on the way. We stay at Zhongba for the night.
Day 24: Drive to Peigu Tso lake
Today, we take a drive towards Peigu Tso lake. We take a drive along Saga and cross a bridge over the Bhramaputra river at Saga. We continue our ride to Peigu Tso Lake. We stop at our campsite, from where we will have to walk to the lake for around half an hour or more. This place is quite cold as it is quite close to Mount Shisapangma. After visiting the lake, we return to our campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 25: Drive to Zhangmu
Today, we head towards the Nepal-China border, i.e., Zhangmu. As we drive towards the border, we can enjoy some fantastic views of Mt. Shisapangma and other Nepalese peaks in the Rolwaling range. As we reach Zhangmu, we stop for an overnight stay.
Day 26: Drive back to Kathmandu
We cross the China-Nepal border and get inside Nepal. We then complete the immigration formalities at Kodari and drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying the views of lush hills at the riverside of Nepal. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 27: Free day in Kathmandu
Today is your free day in Kathmandu. You can take a rest or opt for a Bhaktapur sightseeing tour. You can also visit malls in Kathmandu for last minute shopping if you wish. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 28: Departure Day
Today you will be transferred to the airport for your journey ahead. I hope to see you again!
