Trip Overview

Nar & Phu valley trek is a pleasing journey to the two hidden jewels in the Trans Himalayas of Nepal. This is a newly establish trekking route where so many natural and cultural fantasies are yet to be explored. Walk along the hidden path with the stunning views of mountains, passes, and glaciers. At the earlier part of your trekking journey, you pass through narrow forest area which soon opens up to wild and dry nature with unique rock formations. The ancient villages and the high altitude with grazing settlements will come to sight while the views of mountains are in the backdrop as you move forward to your main destination.

Nar & Phu valley is a beautiful valley full of wilderness that lies north to the popular Manang valley. The Nar & Phu Valley Trek is not only known for the beautiful views of mountains and rock formations it offers but also for the cultural richness of the area. Local people of this valley practice Tibetan Buddhist culture which is commonly prevalent in this area. Most importantly the culture, custom, and religion are an integral part of people’s lives in this area. Their lifestyle and culture reflect the religion they practice. Their main source of income is farming and animal rearing. Besides that, the valley also possesses some ancient gompas and monasteries. Among them, Tashi Lha Khang monastery is a popular one. Many Buddhist pilgrims around the world visit this monastery each year to take blessings from Lama Karma Sonam Rinpoche.

Likewise, Nar & Phu valley Trek offers some beautiful views of Annapurna massif as well. This trek is also a way to cross Kang La Pass and reach Himlung Base Camp. The base camp offers some splendid views of mountains like Api Himal, Kappa Chuli peak, Nanda Devi, and other neighboring peaks as well. Above all, the trek starts from the beautiful city of Pokhara from where we take a flight to Manang. From Manang, we take a trail that takes us to Kang La pass and head towards Nar and Phu villages respectively. After that, we then head towards Himlung Base Camp, where we can enjoy some stunning views of mountains and glaciers. We then embark our return journey via Meta and Dharapani to Besisahar. We wrap up our trek with a drive back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day
As you arrive at the arrival terminal in Tribhuwan Airport, you will be received by our airport representative. You will then be transferred to a hotel in Kathmandu. Check in the hotel and relax for a while. The representative will inform you about the plans ahead in the upcoming days of our journey. If you have enough time in the day, you can either walk around the streets of Kathmandu or stay at your hotel and rests. Spend your night at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing of Kathmandu and trek preparation
Your day starts with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to Kathmandu Durbar square for a sightseeing tour. Kathmandu Durbar Square is a beautiful place listed in the UNESCO listed heritage sites. It is an ancient Malla palace rich in art, architecture and craftworks. You can visit temple, palace and museum inside the Durbar square. After Kathmandu Durbar square, you will be transferred to Swayambhunath stupa which is followed by visit to Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa respectively. You can even prepare for the trekking today. If you have any last minute preparations pending for your journey, you can utilize the day for the preparations. In the evening, return back to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 3: Drive to Koto (2,610msl)
Today, we start our journey with a drive along a scenic way to Koto. It’s takes around 8 hours to reach Besisahar via Jagat. In these eight hours, you will find yourself passing through lush landscape full of greenery and country side landscape of Nepal. We can also get some sights of lush hills, rivers, waterfalls and villages on the way. Upon our arrival in Besisahar, we get down and catch a local jeep that will take us to Koto. Koto is seven to eight hours drive from Besisahar. For the few hours, the drive in the jeep goes smooth but no sooner the trail ends up getting bumpy. We pass villages like Syange and Dharapani to Koto. We stop at a guesthouse in Koto for the night.
Day 4: Drive to Meta (3,560msl)
Today, we start our trekking journey in a real sense. We enter a restricted area and register our permit prior to entering the area in a check post located there. We follow a trail along Soti Khola for a while and then traverse in between the rhododendron and oak forests. We cross a suspension bridge over a river that will lead us to Dharmashala. We then gradually ascend up through the forest until we reach the village of Meta. We stay at a guesthouse in Meta for the night.
Day 5: Trek to Phu (4,250msl)
Today, we leave Meta and make our way to the Phu village. We traverse through a path that undulates up and down and cross few suspension bridges over the streams on our way. We then walk for around four hours until we come across Kyang. At Kyanga, we can find some memories of ruined forts of Khampa settlement. It is the same place which was once captured and inhabited by Khampa refugees from Tibet. Leaving the ancient fort, we continue through a rocky trail to Phu Khola and then to Phu village. We stay at a guesthouse in Phu village for the night.
Day 6: Exploration day at Phu
Today, we spend our day in the Phu village. It’s an interesting day where we explore around the village. We can see the local people engaged in their day to day activities like spinning the wools of sheep/ yaks, grazing sheep/ yak herds, grinding oil out of mustard seed and other daily chores. We then head towards the Himlung Base Camp. We hike up to the base camp from where we can get a magnificent view of a glacial valley. The Himlung Peak looks spectacular as it rises just above us. After beholding the beauty of Himlung peak from the base camp, we retrace of journey back to the Phu village. We stay at a guesthouse in Phu village for the night.
Day 7: Trek to Nar Phedi (4,110msl)
Today, we leave the Phu gaon and descend down gradually to Nar Phedi. On the way we come across many small streams and cross suspension bridges over them. We walk for few hours and come across a huge bridge over Lapche river. We cross the river and walk until we reach Nar Phedi. At Nar Phedi, there is an ancient monastery. We pay our visit to the monastery and spend our night at a guesthouse in Nar Phedi. The walk for the day is quite pleasing through an easy path. We stay at a guesthouse in Nar Phedi for the night.
Day 8: Trek to Nar village
Leaving Nar Phedi, we make our way to the beautiful Nar village. The trail winds up uphill through a beautiful path adorned with mani walls, chortens and prayer flags to Nar village. As we reach the village, we can witness the local people busy with their house chores and activities like weaving, knitting, etc. Stay back at a guesthouse in Nar village for the night, enjoying warm hostility of people in Nar village.
Day 9: Exploration day at Nar village
We spend our day in the village of Nar. We explore around the villages and get some insights on people, their culture and way of living. We can see women chatting and weaving blankets. People are engaged in their daily chores like animal rearing, farming, etc. We walk around the village in the backdrop of Kangaru Himal and Pisang peak which is quite interesting. We also visit gompa in Nar village known as Choling Gompa. It is an ancient gompa that lies on the top of the village. After a beautiful day of excursion, we return back to our guesthouse for overnight stay.
Day 10: Trek to Ngawal (3,660msl)
After a beautiful day in Nar village, we get set for an adventurous day ahead. We hike up to Kang La pass which is an opportunity to get showered with beautiful views of mountains in Annapurna massif. After relishing the beauty of mountains and Nar village from the pass, we descend down and continue our walk until we reach Ngawal. We stay at a guesthouse in Ngawal for the night.
Day 11: Trek to Manang (3,540msl)
Today, we leave Ngawal and head towards the wild yet beautiful village of Manang. As we leave Ngawal, we come across a secluded village of Paugh. We continue through the trail enjoying the views of majestic mountains. We pass the village and start walking uphill to Mungli. A little bit of walk and we will join the main trekking trail of Annapurna at Mungli. We then take a trail that will lead us to the village of Manang. We stay at a guesthouse in Manang for the night.
Day 12: Exploration day in Manang
We spend our day in Manang village. We explore around the villages and get some insights on people, their culture and tradition residing there. We opt for an excursion to the Gangapurna lake and visit a monastery on the way. We pass many villages enjoying the views of mountains that the Manang valley offers. As we walk around the village, we may also visit Himalayan Rescue Association clinic which is operated in the Manang village, in the evening, we return back to our guesthouse for overnight stay.
Day 13: Manang to Tal
Leaving the Manang valley, we continue our walk towards the Tal village. We pass the villages on the way with beautiful views of mountains, valleys and lush landscape. Our walk for the day is quite pleasing as we walk through an easy path that offers immense beauty of nature. As we reach Tal, we stay at a guesthouse in Tal for the night.
Day 14: Drive back to Kathmandu
From Tal, we take a bus that will lead us back to Kathmandu. We retrace our journey through the same scenic route along the highway. The lush landscape will be enough to keep you revitalized throughout the day. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be escorted to the hotel for check in. You can relax at your hotel for the rest of the time. Stay at a hotel in Kathmandu for the night.
Day 15: Departure Day
Today, it’s time for your departure. You will be transferred to the airport before your scheduled flight for your journey ahead. We hope you had a good time with us!
