Lower Dolpo via Jumla Trek is a perfect way to appreciate the beauty of Nature. The beautiful lower Dolpo lies between the Dhaulagiri massif and other neighboring peaks like Nilgiri, Kyangyu Ripa, Annapurna range and many others. Thus, you can have the perfect view of Mount Dhaulagiri. For your information, Mt. Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world.

Lower Dolpo is full of natural glories. Wherever you look you will see the wild landscape, mountains and a few beautiful lakes too. The largest national park of Nepal- Shey Phokshundo National park lies in this region. If you are Lucky you might get a chance to see some of the rare species of flora and fauna. Similarly, the beautiful Phokshundo lake in the backdrop of beautiful Himalayas is a sight to see.

This Lower Dolpo via Jumla trek is a mystical journey to a hidden treasure in the far western region of Nepal. It is a quiet and remote area with very less influence of modernization. However, you can find the influence of Tibetan culture. The villages are in Tibetan style but very little in number. The local live a traditional lifestyle. They grow crops, rear animals and enjoy their own unique culture, custom, and lifestyle. Tibetan Buddhist culture is prevalent in the Lower Dolpo region. You may find the Mani stones, prayer flags on the way. Similarly, the Buddhist monasteries built-in the ancient era is also evidence of the Buddhist culture prevalent in this area.

Lower Dolpo via Jumla trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Then from Nepalgunj, we take another flight to Jumla. An actual trek starts from Jumla. We take a trail to Chopra. And then pass places like Chaurikot, Toijum, Gorphung Khola, Kagmara Phedi and Pungmo to the popular Shey Phoksundo Lake. Shey Phoksundo Lake is a fantastic spot to enjoy a day. You can spend the day by wandering around appreciating the natural glory of mountains and lakes.

After leaving Shey Phoksundo lake, you head towards Baga La High Camp and Numa La Base Camp via Temche. You pass the Baga La pass and Numa La pass which is an achievement in itself. Also, the views of mountains and Lower Dolpo region from these passes look stunning. Your trail further heads to Dho Tarap via Tukyu. Which later is followed by a walk to the villages like Nawarpani, Lahini, and Sulighat to Jhupal. Finally, you wrap up your trek to Lower Dolpo with a flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj. The likely trek is Upper Dolpo Trek which is remote area trek in Nepal.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day
As you arrive at the airport in Kathmandu, our representative will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel for check in. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu and trek preparation
Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and escort you to the UNSECO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa. Meanwhile, we will prepare your trekking permits. You can also utilize the day in making last hour trekking preparation. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Fly to Nepalgunj
We take an early flight to Nepalgunj. Upon your arrival, you will be escorted to a hotel in Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is one of the hottest places in Nepal. It is also a border city near India. In the evening you can wander around the city. Overnight at a hotel in Nepalgunj.
Day 4: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla
Today, we take en early flight to Jumla via Nepalgunj airport. Upon our arrival This morning we fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla. We will meet our trekking crew and make the final preparations and leave Jumla, we cross the Tila Khola and the Chaudabise Khola near their confluence and climb gradually to a fertile valley of rice terraces. The trail continues through several villages before passing through a forest of maple and walnut to a meadow which, in season, is covered in wildflowers. Beyond the meadow, the trail climbs to a small pass before descending again to Gothi Chaur and our first night's camp.
Day 5: Trek to Chotra
Today, we initiate our trekking jouney and head towards Chotra. Our trail for the day goes mostly through forest with numerous species of plants and animals. During our walk through the forest, we can have some great views of lush landscape around. On the way, we also pass few villages of Chetri, Tibetan and Thakali people to Chotra. The mani walls that we pass along our trail is interesting. Overnight stay at Chotra
Day 6: Trek to Chaurikot
Today, we leave Chotra and walk along several dense forests to Chaurikot. We also cross few rivers and stop at a view point in Balasa and Sim on the way. These two view point offers some spectacular views of Lower Dolpo region. The landscape looks outstanding with the views of mountains. Overnight stay at Chaurikot
Day 7: Trek to Toijum
We further continue walking along our trail to Toijum, which is our destination for the day. On the way, we pass Kaigaon which is a beautiful village in the Lower dolpo region. The community, houses, fields, everything about this village is charming. We can also have a view of dense pine forest beside the village which makes the surrounding lush and pristine. As we pass the village, we walk towards Hurikot. At Hurikot, we can visit a Bon monastery and get some insight on the Bon religion prevalent in that area. Leaving Hurikot, we continue towards Toijum which is our halting point for the night.
Day 8: Trek to Gorphung Khola
From Toijum, we continue descending down to the banks of Garpung Khola. The pristine landscape looks amazing as we walk down towards the river. Overnight stay at Garpung Khola
Day 9: Trek to Kag Mara Phedi west
Today, we cross the Garpung Khola and start ascending up towards Kag Mara Phedi. We climb up along the trail until we reach Kag Mara Phedi East. We end up our trekking journey for the day at Kag Mara Phedi West.
Day 10: Trek to Kag Mara Phedi east
Today, we leave the western side of Kag Mara Phedi and head towards the eastern side of Kag Mara Phedi. Our walk for the day is easy and we will be walking with the beautiful views of Lower Dolpo on our sight. Overnight at Kag Mara Phedi East
Day 11: Trek to Pungmo
From the Kag Mara Phedi East, we take a trail that takes us to Pungmo. We can visit a Bon Monastery on the way. The monastery depicts the Bon religion that is still practiced by the people living in the lower Dolpo region. The visit to the monastery can be a wonderful opportunity to get some insights on the unique and rare Bon religion. Overnight stay at Pungmo
Day 12: Trek to Shey Phoksundo lake
Today, we leave the Pungmo and ascend up towards the Shey Phoksundo lake. As we move closer to the lake, the atmosphere turns more pristine and refreshing. We can get a glimpse of mountains on the backdrop. We continue through our path until we reach the Shey Phoksundo Lake. Overnight stay at Shey Phokshundo lake
Day 13: Acclimatization and exploration day
As we move higher, we need to adapt ourselves with the rising elevation. Therefore, today, we spend our day in Ringmo for acclimatization. We spend our day wandering around the azure high altitude Phoksundo Lake in the backdrop of beautiful mountains. After that, we explore the Ringmo village, interact with the locals and get some insights on unique Bon religion practiced in this area. We spend another day at Rimgo at a guesthouse.
Day 14: Trek to Temche
After beholding the beauty of Shey Phoksundo Lake at its perfect attire, we descend down and cross several passes on the trail. We further slide into deep ravine and cross the frozen stream to open space. We finally descend down until a beautiful meadow opens up on our way. We stay at Temche for the night.
Day 15: Trek to Baga La High camp
Today, we head towards Baga La High Camp. Today is an exciting day as we cross Baga La pass. The walk is tough as we ascend up a slope that goes zigzag from Panklanga khola. We climb for around two hours to high camp from where the Baga La pass is very close. From top, we can get spectacular views of Norbung Kang and the Baga La range. We climb up a cliff and cross the pass from where we will have splendid views of mountains like Kanjirowa and Shey Shikhar. After beholding the beautiful views from the pass, we descend down through a slippery slope with huge rocks. After one and half hours, we will be able to see lushness in the atmosphere which is amazing. We continue walking until we reach yak Kharka which is our destination for the day. On the way, we can find some stunning waterfalls that fall from the mountains. From yak Kharka, you can get beautiful views of snow-capped mountains around. We set up our camps in the Kharka where we stay for the night
Day 16: Trek to Numa La Base Camp
Our day ahead is quite tough. We start early as we have to cross the pass before afternoon to avoid winds and storms. We start at around 5 am and walk for around three hours to Numa La pass that lies at an elevation of 5318 metres. As we come close to the pass, we will be blessed with the beautiful view of mountain ranges. The stunning views of snow-capped mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu Range, Mt. Shey Shikar, Mt. Kanjirowa and many others from the top is outstanding. Leaving pass, we descend down steep and move towards meadow where we set up our tents for the night.
Day 17: Trek to Tukyu
Leaving he Numala Base Camp, we follow our trail to Tukyu. We walk for around two hours with the spectacular views Mt. Dhaulagiri and other neighbouring snow-capped mountains on sight. We then cross a pass and descend down to Tarap valley. As we enter Tarap valley, we come across Tukyu village which would be the first settlement area after Raka village. There is a beautiful gompa in Tukyu with a statue of Maitreya -the Future Buddha which is worth visiting. We stay at tented camps in Tukyu for the night.
Day 18: Trek to Dho Tarap
Our destination for the day is Dho Tarap. We pass the Cristal Mountain School on the way which provides education for children from Dho and is sponsored by a French NGO. We visit this school which has an alluring entrance gate i.e. Chorten. Dho are the descendants of Tibetans and practice similar religion, culture and tradition. We can see people dressed in typical dark dresses with colourful aprons. We can see Dho women wearing bracelets of big shells with beautiful silver and turquoise coloured headgear. Men generally have long hair with a red ribbon in their hair that resembles the style of Tibetan Khampas. They also wear a long coat with one sleeve is hanging down. We can interact with friendly Dho people at the school. Dho is a traditional village that resembles other villages in the region. It has stone built traditional houses, fields of buckwheat, barley and potatoes and people and engaged in farming and yak rearing for livelihood. Today, we set our camps at Dho Tarap for the night.
Day 19: Exploration Day
Today, we spend our day at Dho Tarap. We wander around the village and get some insights on people, their culture and tradition. We set up our tents at Dho Tarap for the night.
Day 20: Trek to Nawarpani
Today, we head towards Nawarpani. As we move ahead, we can notice lushness in the environment. Slowly, the dry and barren surrounding changes to lush and green environment. We reach Sisaul, cross a pass and descend down to three sided tunnel. We then continue walking outside the river valley to Nawarpani. Overnight stay at Nawarpani.
Day 21: Trek to Lahini
From Temche, we continue walking and cross a suspension bridge over the Thulibheri river. We further continue our trekking journey until we reach Lahini, which will be our halting spot for today
Day 22: Trek to Tarakot
Leaving Lahini, we cross another suspension bridge over a river and head towards Khanigoan. We follow the riverbed and walk until we reach Tarakot. Tarakot is an old fortress town which called Dzong by the local people. The local term “Dzong” means fort in common language. We stay at Tarakot for the night.
Day 23: Trek to Sulighat
We are in the phase of ending our trekking journey. Today, we descend down until we reach Sulighat. We stop at Sulighat for the day. Overnight at a guesthouse in Sulighat.
Day 24: Trek to Juphal
Today, we leave Sulighat and walk out of the Shek Phoksundo National Park. We follow the the Thuli Bheri river and walk along the crop fields to Juphal. Overnight at a guesthouse in Juphal.
Day 25: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj
Take a flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, stroll around the streets of Kathmandu or take rest at the hotel. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 26: Free day in Kathmandu
Today is a leisure day in Kathmandu. You can either rest or opt for sightseeing tour to Bhaktapur or Patan. You can also spend the day in malls shopping. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 27: Departure Day
Your guide will escort you to the airport before your scheduled flight for your journey ahead.
