Everest Advanced base camp trek can be considered easy or difficult based on your endurance capacity. If you take walking and climbing as a hectic exercise, then this trek is easy because it’s just an overland drive. Even though climbing and walking is not a problem but you are afraid of high altitude region, then this can be quite difficult as you will be driving in the highest altitude in the world.
You do not need prior mountaineering and climbing experience. But, you should be able to adapt to the high altitude regions.
Everest Advanced Base Camp Trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu airport to Lhasa. The flight to Lhasa is similar to a mountain flight as you will be flying above the mountains and Tibetan plateau. Also, Lhasa is a city of wonders where you can spend time sightseeing in some important places. Places like Sera Monastery, Norbulingka Palace, Potala Palace, Jokhang temple and Drepung monastery. The art and culture portrait in these palaces and monasteries are fabulous! From Lhasa, you drive to Rongbuk via Sigatse and Tinkri. Rongbuk is a place from where your actual trekking journey to the base camp starts. You walk along the Tibetan plateau to base camp and interim camp. From there you retrace your journey back. Being on the base camp is nothing less than a dream come true. It is a trophy that you will hold throughout the lifetime.

Fly to Lhasa. The flight above the towering Himalayas is an amazing experience that will give you a bird’s eye view of the mountains. You will explore the magnificence of Lhasa city accompanied by your guide and an interpreter. Lhasa is culturally very rich and has many monasteries. The artistic works in the monasteries of the Lhasa is mind blowing. Amongst them is a well-preserved Sera Monastery. It looks spectacular with its white walls and golden roofs. You can see several hundred monks who study and live in this monastery. Next on list is Norbulingka, the palace of the Dalai Lama that is so grand and artistically phenomenon. Exploring the palace, we head to Jokhang Temple. It is the most sacred temple in Tibet. The temple is surrounded by Barkor, the central market of Lhasa. Today is a delightful day when you’ll visit the Potala Palace. Yes! Potala palace is the same palace that dominates the whole Lhasa city. It can be the first thing that you may have noticed in the city. The palace is astonishingly magnificent. It was constructed in the 17th century and features the Dalai Lama’s quarters and many vital chapels. Collecting the wonders of Potala palace, we head towards Drepung Monastery. Once, it used to be the largest monastery with around eleven thousand monks. Though the number has decreased to hundreds, the monastery still preserves its cultural importance and artistic magnificence. Overnight at a hotel in Lhasa. (Breakfast included)
We wake up early and continue our journey in a comfortable Land cruiser. With the stunning landscape on view, we follow Tsangpo river and ascend up to Khampa La (4794m). We enjoy the beautiful views of Yamdok Tso Lake and snow-capped peak of Nazin Kang Sa (7252m) from the pass. We further drive westwards over the Karo La (5045m) with the awesome view of a tremendous glacier. We pass colourful valleys and villages to Gyantse. In Gyantse, we visit Gyantse Kumbum and Gyantse Dzong. The Kumbum is a massive stupa and the Dzong is a fort that was founded in the 14th century. After exloring the kumbum and dzong, we drive for around an hour and half to Shigatse. Overnight at a hotel in Shigatse (Breakfast included)
We traverse along the Friendship Highway admiring the desert like high altitude landscape of Tibet. On the way, we cross Gyamtso La (5220m), the highest pass on our travel that lies beyond Lhatse. Descending down to the plains, we passing monasteries and the camps of the herders and drive to Shegar. On the way, we visit two popular monasteries namely Natang monastery and Sakya monastery. Leaving Friendship Highway behind, we move towards the Himalayas. We move towards south and pass the Pang La (5150m). The views of mountains that spread from Makalu to Shishapangma is fascinating. At this point, we do not get the view of Everest, however, we get the sight of Everest once we turn to Rongbuk valley. Upon our arrival in Rongbuk, we visit Rongbuk monastery that was built in 1902 by a Lama and possesses small huts for monks to meditate. Overnight at a guesthouse in Rongbuk valley. As we move to high altitude regions, acclimatization becomes a must. Therefore, we have set two days aside for acclimatization in Base Camp. You can either sit back and relax or wander around the place admiring the views of almighty Everest. Overnight under the blue sky in the tented camps. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Experience an impressive view of arrays of Himalayan peaks and Rongbuk Glacier in its most alluring attire. A trial on the east side of the glacier is used by the travellers who would like to climb up to Everest. We travel along the moraine hills and yellow granite cliffs to Camp I of Everest Base Camp. Today we climb up and descend over the gravel hills to Interim Camp (5760m) that lies just above the west edge of the Rongbuk glacier. The views of pinnacles of snow clad mountains that rises above to touch the sky from this camp is magnificent. Overnight at a tented camp at Interim camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
As Interim Camp is the best place for acclimatization, we have separated a rest day at this place. Just explore around the camp to get the views of mountains and glaciers. Overnight at a tented camp at Interim camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
There is a point where perplexity of ice occurs at the junction of Changtse glacier and this the point where Camp II of Advanced Everest Base Camp lies. The Changtse glacier lies just below a huge cliff. The views of unbreakable chain of mountains and the glaciers from Camp II is incredible. Overnight at a tented camp in Camp II. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Early in the morning, we start moving forward to advanced base camp at Everest. The Advanced Everest Base Camp lies beside a glacier within a smooth gravel upland. The views sky dominating snowy peaks and the panoramic rock of the Northeast Ridge from the base camp is the best view of mountains one can ever have. More awesome is the chain of mountain peaks that spreads above the pinnacles to the southwest. At this point, we are very close to the Everest. Endeavour the beauty of so called heaven and descend down to Camp II. Overnight in a tented camp in Camp II. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Today, we start descending down to lower altitude. We leave camp II and descend down to the Base Camp. Overnight in a tented camp in Base Camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
We join the road that takes us to the Nepal- china border and drive towards Tingri. Moving forward from Tingri, we cross two high passes namely Lalung La (5124m) and Shung La (5200m). From the pass, we will be rewarded with spectacular views of the mountain peaks like Shishapangma, Cho Oyu, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar. Leaving the pass, we descend down to Nyalam. Overnight at a guesthouse in Nyalam. (Breakfast included)
Leaving Nyalam, we drive towards the Friendship Bridge. We cross Bhote Koshi River i.e. the Chinese - Nepalese border. We bid our Tibetan crew a goodbye and walk towards Nepalese Immigration Control in Kodari. We meet our Nepalese staff there and complete the re-entry formalities. Then we continue our drive to Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu. (Breakfast included)
A leisure day in Kathmandu. You can either rest at your hotel or stroll around the streets of Kathmandu. You can also go for shopping to the malls or visit the places of interest. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu. (Breakfast included)
