Chomolhari Trek with Cultural Tour starts with an exciting flight above the sky stabbing mountains of Nepal to Paro. Upon arrival, you will meet our Bhutanese crew. At first, you will make your way to the Tiger Nest monastery. After visiting the monastery, you initiate your trekking journey from the ruins of the Drugyal Dzong. We follow the Paro river and pass many hamlets, forests, and farmlands to Yalila Pass. The herds grazing in the high altitude hamlets can be an exciting view. So can be the splendid views of mountains Tserim Gang, Cholmolhari, Jechu Darkey. And there are some other glaciers too that comes to our sight as we trek throughout the trail. Chomolhari Base Camp will also give you some enchanting views of mountains in Bhutan.

A flight to Paro takes you across the Himalayas to Bhutan. The flight in itself is nothing less than a mountain flight. You pass above the Himalayas admiring the magnificence of snow-capped mountains standing tall one after another. The flight is also an opportunity to pass Jumolhari peak and Jichu Drake peak. As you arrive at the airport in Paro, your guide i.e. our Bhutanese crew will pick you up and escort you to a hotel for check in. Get refreshed and rest for a while. In the evening, walk round the city on your own will. Overnight at a hotel in Paro. (Lunch and dinner included.)
We start our day with a hike to Tiger’s nest monastery. Tiger’s nest monastery is one of the most popular monastery in the town that has its own importance. According to a mythology, Guru Rinpoche has fled on a back of tigress to meditate in a cliff and it is the place where the monastery stands now. It is also popular for its dramatic location at the edge of the cliff. After exploring the monastery and its rich crafts, we descend down to Paro. Overnight at a hotel in Paro. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Today, we start our trek from Drukgyal Dzong. We walk along the Paro River and follow it as it winds along farmhouses with cultivated fields of rice, millet, potatoes, etc. We walk for about five hours until we reach the village of Shana. We stay under a tent for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Today, we continue our walk up through the Valley of Paro River and ascend gradually as our trail narrows and winds up and down through the forest of pine, oak and juniper. Then we head towards our destination for the day – Sio Thangthangkha. As we move close to our destination, we will be rewarded with spectacular snow-capped summit of Mt. Chomolhari. This mountain has a sacred value amongst Bhutanese people. We stay under a tent for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
We follow the Paro River and continue the trail until the valley opens into a spectacular location surrounded by the majestic mountains. We can find only few people residing in this area who earn their living by rearing yaks and selling cheese. We set our tent below a ruined fortress that lies near the base of Chomolhari at Jangothang. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Today is a free day set aside for rest and exploration. You can either hike around or explore the area or rest inside your tent under the blue sky admiring the dramatic surrounding. It is recommended to hike around because it would help you to acclimatize with the elevation gain. We spend our night under a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
We start walking up through a wide pasture land to the Ngye La pass. On the way, we may encounter some yak herders in their camping tents. Leaving the pass, we descend down to Lingshi basin with the views of the Lingshi Dzong on our sight. The view of the valley, Tserim Kang (mountain) and its descending glaciers at the north end of the valley looks spectacular. We spend our night under a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
We follow our trail up stream towards the valley opposite the Dzong and gradually ascend through the valley for about four hours until the stiff climb at the pass. We cross the pass and take a long and gradual descent to the Shodu camp at an altitude of 3750m. Overnight under a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
We follow our path along Thimphu river and descend down through juniper, rhododendron and other alpine forests. As we walk along our trail, the view of the cliff facing rocks and waterfall is amazing. At the river side, you will be served with hot and delicious food. After lunch our trail ascends gradually to the ruins of Barshong Dzong. We set our tent for the night in the ruins of dzong. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Our trail descends down through alpine forests and joins Thimphu river. We walk along the river just for a while. Then we climb up to Dalamkencho camp at an elevation of 3,600m. Overnight under a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.)
Today, we descend down through bamboo forests all the way to Dalamkencho and finally join Thimphu river again. We walk ahead until we arrive Dodena. At Dodena, we will have our vehicle ready which will take us to Thimphu. In the evening, you can stroll around Thimphu city on your own. Overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.
Your guide will escort you to the airport for your journey ahead.
