Makalu and Barun Region

Makalu and Barun region is formerly a restricted region that has some stunning and challenging trekking routes to offer. Lying between Kanchenjunga and Solukhumbhu, this region is protected by the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project. Established in 1992, it covers an area of 2330 sq. km. This region spreads to five major ecological zones of lush and tropical Arun valley, dense forest, fir, and alpine meadows. With a trail ranging from 850m to 5000m, Makalu region offers some spectacular natural scenery with the fifth highest mountain-Mt Makalu as a major attraction. Possessing a wide range of climatic and altitudinal variation, Makalu region provides a diverse habitat to various floras and faunas. Plants of almost all major ecological regions are found here and it is also home to a variety of wildlife. The alluring mountains, immaculate forest and hostile people with their diverse culture as an addition make the Makalu region a natural paradise.
