Panch Pokhari Trek is a newly discovered trekking route in Nepal that has been gaining a lot of attention lately. The magical aura of the Panchpokhari has attracted many nature lovers towards it. Though the route hasn’t been well promoted and the infrastructures on the route are just in the phase of planning, the mystical beauty of the place has compelled people to follow the off beaten route of Pachpokhari. Located to the northeast of Kathmandu in the base of JugalHimal, Panchpokhari is a fascinating place at an elevation of 4100 meters. The term – Panchpokhari comprises two Nepali words Panch and Pokhari which means five and ponds respectively. Hence, Panch Pokhari, as its name reflects is a heavenly destination with five serene and tranquil ponds in the backdrop of beautiful Himalayas.

Panch Pokhari Trek starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Chautara. Chautara is just five to six hours away from the capital city of Kathmandu.FromChautara, the trail traverses through some interesting local villages, hills, forests, and meadows. The walk through the villages is an enriching experience where you will be able to know more about the local folks, their culture, tradition, and lifestyle. As you reachPanchpokhari, you will be able to admire the outstanding views of Gaurishanker, DorjeLakpa, Langtang Himalaya range, Jugal Himal range, Rolwaling range, etc.from the top of Panchpokhari. Panchpokhari Trek ends with a walk back to Melamchi and drives back to Kathmandu.

Panch Pokhari Trek is totally an off beaten trek where you will be able to enjoy camping trek under the tented camps. The trail doesn’t have any guesthouses or teahouses to cater to the service of food and accommodation. Hence, Himal Eco Treks helps you with food and accommodation. Panch Pokhari is a place of religious, cultural and ecological importance. The place is not only popular for its magnificent natural beauty but for its religious importance as well. In Hinduism, the five ponds of Panch Pokhari are five holy ponds. Janai Purnima is an important festival celebrated by people from the Hindu community. In this festival, Hindus, mostly Brahmins come here to perform sacred thread changing festivals (Janai). It takes place on the full moon day of August every year. People from around Nepal come to this pond to take a holy dip into the pond and perform the sacred thread changing rituals in the auspicious occasion of Janai Purnima.

Detail Itinerary

Himal Eco Treks will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for check in. Enjoy your time at the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Early in the morning, your guide will pick you up at the hotel for the sightseeing tour. Enjoy the historical and cultural aspect of Nepal in Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath stupa. Today’s day is set aside for any last-minute preparation for your trek if necessary. Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu

After breakfast in the hotel, we shall pick you up at the hotel for a wonderful drive towards Chautara. Chautara is the district headquarter of Sindhupalchowk. Sindhupalchowk is a district in Nepal that was completely devastated by an earthquake in April 2015. However, you can see some newly built houses and countryside Nepal as you drive from Kathmandu to Chautara. Overnight stay at a tented camp in Chautara

Today, we start our walking journey. After delicious food cooked by our team members at the camp, we start walking up slowly and gradually towards San Okhareni. We pass some small villages on the way inhabited by people from diverse ethnic groups. As we reach Sano Okhareni, we set up our camps near the forests of pine from where we can enjoy some great views of mountains. Overnight at the tented camps in Sano Okhareni.

After a delicious food at the camp with wonderful views of mountains on sight, we commence our trek with a gradual walk uphill towards ThuloOkhareni. As we climb up, the trail gets stepper through the dense forests of rhododendron and pine. The dense forests are a home to varieties of wildlife. If lucky, you can encounter some wildlife within those jungles. We continue our walk until we open to the pastures of Kami Kharka. Overnight stay at the tented camps in Kami Kharka

It’s a pleasing and gentle walk today through a much flat trail. After breakfast at the camp, we follow the trail that traverses through the lush forests of rhododendron, oak, pine, and juniper. As we walk further, we can see some nomad houses set by the cattle herders. We pass the pastures to Pauwa Bas which is a sheltered spot for the pilgrims who visit Panchpokhari. From Pauwa Bas, the trail climbs up steep uphill towards the top of a hill. It can be a tiring job to walk up but steep descent from the top of the hill will equalize your effort. From the top, we descend down through a forested area for around one and a half hours. We can witness some amazing views of mountains as we descend down to HileBhanjyang. Leaving HileBhnajyang, we walk uphill through a steep path for around an hour. Though the first one hour of the trek is steep uphill, we can enjoy a gradual descent along the rocky hills and rhododendron forests for around three hours next. We walk until we reach NarsimPati which is our camping site for the day. Overnight stay at the tented camps in NarsimPati

Our day starts with a gradual ascend uphill through the rocky hills to Panchpokhari. Panchpokhari is the ultimate travel destination of our entire trekking journey. Panchpokhari refers to five ponds. Today, we confront those five Ponds that are situated in a stunning setting i.e. in the backdrop of beautiful Himalayan ranges. The place gets flocks of pilgrims during the full moon day of August in Janaipurnima. Overnight at the tented camps in Panchpokhari

We wake up early today to catch the mesmerizing views of the sunrise over the snow-clad mountains. It takes around one and a half hours for us to reach the top of the hill from where we can enjoy the brilliant views of the sunrise over the mountains like Mt. DorjeLakpa, JugalHimal, Rolwaling range, and Langtang range. We descend down from the top and return back to the tented camps in Panchpokhari. We then leave Panchpokhari and walk through the forests of pine and rhododendron to get to TupiDanda. Overnight at the tented camps in TupiDanda

From TupiDanda, we get down through the terraced farmlands and hills to the village of Dhap. Dhap is a beautiful village inhabited by the people of the Tamang community. Here we can get some insights on rich culture, customs, and traditions of Tamang people. Overnight at the tented camps in Dhap

Today is an extra day in Dhap village. We can spend the day wandering around the ethnic villages and exploring the traditional people residing in those villages. It’s a wonderful experience to walk around the villages and get to know about the traditional lifestyle of Tamang people residing in Dhap. Overnight at tented camps in Dhap.

We are almost at the end phase of our trekking journey. Today, we descend down the villages, terraced farmlands and crop fields to the bank of Indrawati river. On the way, we can see the hydroelectricity project on our way to Tipini. We walk a bit further to a town called Melamchi bazaar in that area. Melamchi bazaar comprises of teahouses, lodges, schools, colleges, government offices, etc. Overnight stay at Melamchi

Today, we drive back to Kathmandu via Melamchi. Upon arrival, one can relax at the hotel or walk around the streets of Kathmandu to buy some souvenirs. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu

Finally, it is time for us to bid you goodbye. Your guide will escort you to the airport before your scheduled flight for your journey ahead.
