Himal Eco Treks for organizing this beautiful trek, and to their staff for sharing this amazing experience.
After our originally planned trek to Kailash got canceled because of the closure of the Tibetan border as a result of the dreadful 2015 earthquake, Himal Eco Trek offered a great alternative. Very professionally they tailored the Lower Dolpo trek for our remaining group of 2 into a wonderfully adventurous “lightweight” trek. We were a very intimate group with only a guide and 2 porters, who were not only very efficient at their jobs and knowledgeable about nature and culture but also great fun to hang out with. They simply did a great job keeping us happy and healthy, cooking up the most amazing meals on a kerosene stove, serving ginger tea after a tough day, pointing out griffon vultures or blue sheep along the way, and telling jokes in the kitchen tent before bedtime. And what can I say about Lower Dolpo? The few isolated villages, almost more Tibetan than Nepalese, the encounters with the people, the Himalayan landscape, from high passes and deep gorges to enchanted mountain lakes…it’s almost too mindblowing to take in! To get an idea, here’s a small video-account of our trek: https://youtu.be/qc9Uj709TD8
