Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek 2021/2022 is one of the exciting, challenging and lively treks featured for the upcoming year 2021/2022 in Nepal. It takes you to Dhaulagiri Base Camp at an elevation of 4050 meters via a remote and rugged trail full of natural glory and mountain beauty. It is perfect for those who want to experience the high altitude mountainous terrain of Nepal along a less traveled, secluded, and off-beaten trail. The trail moves around the Dhaulagiri massif. The Dhaulagiri massif extends 120 km from the Kaligandaki river in the west to Bheri. It is bounded by tributaries of the Bheri River in the north and southwest and Myagdi Khola n the southeast. Dhaulagiri Himal that rises tall at an elevation of 8167 is one of the mountains that rise above the height of eight thousand from sea level. It is the seventh highest mountain in the world. The world Dhaulagiri comes from two Sanskrit words – “Dhawala” and “Giri” where Dhawala means white, dazzling, beautiful and Giri means mountains. Therefore, as its name depicts Dhaulagiri is a dazzling, white, and beautiful mountain that rises tall and dominates the skyline.

Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek 2021/2022 is an amazing way to explore the natural and cultural diversity of Dhaulagiri of Nepal. it starts from the foothills of Dhaulagiri massif and takes you all the way from the lush hills, forests, valleys, and villages to high altitude rocky terrain. On the way, we pass diverse vegetation that acts as a home to various species of floras, faunas, birds, and wildlife. Also, we traverse through various settlement areas inhabited by people from different communities like Brahmin, Chhetri, Magar, Chhatyal, and other ethnic groups. It starts with a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu which is followed by a drive to Darbang via Pokhara. From Darbang, we start walking along the lush hills, fields, and villages on the way. We pass villages like Sibang, Litchi, Bogara and climb up along the forested area to Dobang. Then we descend down to Choriban Khola and climb up towards Italian Base Camp. At this point, we can notice the change in atmosphere and vegetation. We are already in high altitude region. From here, we climb up to Dhaulagiri Base Camp via Glacier Camp. From the Dhaulagiri Base Camp, we cross the French pass to enter the hidden valley. We will be showered with some stunning views of mountains in Dhaulagiri massif. Further, we cross the Dhampus pass to reach Yak Kharka. Leaving Yak Kharka, we descend down to Jomsom and fly back to Pokhara. In this way, we conclude our Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek 2021/2022. Detail Itinerary

As you arrive at the airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Himal Eco Treks will pick you up and escort you to the hotel in Kathmandu. Check-in the hotel and the remaining time is on your own. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

After breakfast at the hotel, a tour guide from Himal Eco Treks will pick you up for a sightseeing tour around the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. You will be escorted to the historical and religious sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath temple, and Boudhanath stupa. You can explore the sites and get some unique insights on art, culture, and history of Nepal. The sightseeing tour in Kathmandu is a superb combo of art, culture, history, and diverse religion prevalent in Nepal. Meanwhile, we will arrange for your trekking permit. If you have any last-minute shopping left for trekking, you can buy them today. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

After breakfast at the hotel, we set out for a long drive along the highway route to Darbang. We follow a scenic trail along the Trishuli river to Pokhara. The road till Pokhara is smooth and easy. From Pokhara, we drive towards Beni along a rough track. Further, we drive through a dusty, narrow and difficult road to Darbang. At Darbang, we are at the height of 1180 meters from sea level. Overnight in Darbang.

We start our day with breakfast at the camp. Proceeding with the trek, we cross a long suspension bridge over the Myagdi river and head towards a valley that will lead us towards the Dhaulagiri. Today, we take an isolated path with no signs of the vehicle and we will not be able to see any vehicle for the coming two weeks. Initially, we follow a trail along the river and cross a small bridge over Dang Khola. Then we climb up along a zig-zag road to Dharapani. Further, we follow a trail along cultivated farmland to Sibang. Overnight in Sibang.

After breakfast in Sibang, we get ready to continue our trek towards Litchi. We cross Dara Khola and climb up to the village of Muri. At this point, we will be rewarded with some scenic views of mountains such as Gurja Himal, Konabon, Myagumath, Dhaulagiri I, Manapati, etc. We walk pass the village of Muri and climb up steep over the forested ridge. We continue through the lush and scenic route until we reach Litchi. Overnight in Litchi.

After breakfast, we climb up steep along a steep slope over a river. No sooner we come across two path, one path that climbs up higher to avoid cliffs that acts a barrier to our journey and another route that is short and involves a walk along narrow, steep and exposed path. We take the lower route with the help of rope and get out of the route. A straightforward and final climb along a steep path takes us to Boghara at an elevation of 2080 meters. Overnight in Boghara

After breakfast, we leave Boghara and head towards Dobang. As we leave Boghara, the path undulates up and down along a fantastic route full of Himalayan forest. The walk is scenic, steep and beautiful but challenging at the same time. There are lots of ups and downs and the hike lasts for around five hours with magnificent views of mountains on sight. Overnight in Dobang.

Starting the day with a delicious breakfast, we get ready for the trek today. We follow the trail that ascends up through the dense forests of pine, rhododendron and bamboo. On the way, we see a crest that we should climb. We climb up enjoying the wonderful views of Dhaulagiri I. Then, we drop down to Myadi Khola. We cross the river and walk along the forested area to Choriban Khola. Overnight in Choriban Khola.

As we move ahead from Choriban Khola, the valley opens up and the spectacular views of Dhaulagiri I come to our sight. Moving forward, we can notice a slight change in the atmosphere. The forests slightly start to get less dense with few bamboo trees on the way. The trail climbs up steep and we come out of the forested area. Further, we climb up steep towards Italian Base camp enjoying the stunning views of Dhaulagiri Himal. Overnight in Italian Base Camp.

At Italian Base Camp, we are already at the height of 3600 meters and we are moving ahead to higher elevation regions in the days to come. Hence, at this point of journey, acclimatization becomes a must. Therefore, we spend an extra day in Italian Base Camp acclimatizing ourselves with the rising elevation. We hike around the area and return back to the base camp for the night. Overnight in Italian Base Camp.

Boosting our energy with breakfast, we climb up to the upper valley and head towards the Chhonbardan glacier. We need to cross a large breach in moraine and frozen remains of avalanches formed from the bottom of the west face. At first, we descend down the steep slope of the moraine with the help of rope and climb up again. Once we come to the upper section, we pass the American and French Base Camp. We follow a path that leads us to Chhonbaradan glacier and then to the Glacier Camp. Overnight in Glacier Camp at an elevation of 4220 meters.

It’s an interesting day as we are heading towards the Dhaulagiri Base Camp. After breakfast, we walk for around four to five hours up towards the Dhaulagiri Base Camp at an elevation of 4600 meters. We climb up the moraine covered glacier and walk steadily enjoying the classic views of mountains that bestows right before us. The views of the Dhaulagiri panorama standing tall before our eyes one after the other, wild and beautiful is simply fabulous. The view of the icefall in front of us is also an amazing experience. Overnight in Dhaulagiri Base Camp.

At Dhaulagiri Base Camp, we are already at the height of 4600 meters and we are moving ahead to cross French pass in the days to come. Hence, at this point of journey, acclimatization becomes a must. Therefore, we spend an extra day in Dhaulagiri Base Camp acclimatizing ourselves with the rising elevation. We hike around the area enjoying some wonderful sights of Mt. Dhaulagiri I, Mt. Dhaulagiri II, Mt. Dhaulagiri III and Mt Dhaulagiri V for longer. Overnight stay at a tent in Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Overnight in Dhaulagiri Base Camp.

Today, we start our trek after breakfast and move ahead to cross the French pass. At first, we climb up the terraced hill, pass the mountain flanks and climb a slope to reach French Pass. From this point, we can see the great mountains namely, Mukut Himal, Sita Chuchure, and Tashi Kang surrounding the hidden valley. From the French pass, we descend down the hidden valley. Leaving the beautiful memories of the hidden valley, we descend down the valley enjoying the classic views of mountains all around. Further, we ascent up to the Dhampus pass and cross Dhampus Pass to descend down to Yak Kharka. As we descend down to Yak Kharka, we join the trail of Annapurna Circuit Trek. From the Kharka, we can enjoy some magnificent views of mountains in Annapurna massif. Overnight stay at Yak Kharka.

Today, we take a steep descend from Yak Kharka to Marpha. We pass dense forest of rhododendron, oak and pine trees on the day. If lucky, we will encounter some unique flora and faunas. Marpha is a popular village in this region famous for its apples. After a few hours’ trek from Marpha, until we reach Jomsom. On the way, we pass some villages, monasteries with the views of the lush scenery around. Overnight stay at Jomsom.

We take an early flight to Pokhara today. It takes us around 25 – 30 minutes to reach Pokhara. on reaching, you will be escorted to your hotel in Pokhara. After a short refreshment, we get ready for a sightseeing tour around the Pokhara city. At first, we visit the lakeside and opt for boating to visit Talbarahi temple in the middle of the Fewa Lake. Then we proceed with a sightseeing tour to David falls, Gupteshwor temple, and the International Mountaineering Museum. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.

We have set aside a leisure day in Pokhara as there is so much to do in this city. You can utilize the day strolling around the city or engage yourself in adventure activities like boating, bungee jumping, or zip flying. You can also explore places like Begnas lake, White Peace Pagoda, or retreat yourself with a body massage/ spa, etc. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.

Today we drive back to Kathmandu along the scenic highway route along the Trishuli river. On reaching, you will be dropped at a hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Is Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek 2021 difficult?

Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek 2021 is considered as a moderate to strenuous trek that takes you through some less traveled trails in Nepal. One should be physically fit and have high endurance capacity to opt for this trek. It is obviously not for beginners. But if you have tried one or two moderate treks successfully, you can opt for this trekking journey. You will have to walk for seven to eight hours on average for around 14-15 days. The accommodation available is very simple and one may have to stay under tented camps wherever accommodation is not available. The highest point of the trek is Dhaulagiri Base Camp at an elevation of 4050 meters, therefore the trek is not a joke.
