Annapurna Base Camp and Sanctuary trek is an amazing way to emerge into the Annapurna region in Nepal. It is the best way to check the threshold of wilderness in the Himalayas. The trek starts with a flight/drive to the picturesque valley of Pokhara. Pokhara is a popular destination for many domestic as well as international tourists. It is also the starting point of every trek that lies in the Annapurna region.

Annapurna base camp and sanctuary trek take you through the foothills of Annapurna to the high-altitude region. The journey is full of beautiful forests, charming villages, and terrace farmland. In the spring season rhododendron blooms and makes the whole forest colorful and enchanting.

The trail is also full of magnificent views of the Annapurna range. The views of mountains like Annapurna Himal, Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Ganagapurna, Annapurna III, and Machhapuchhre. These views will boost you to make it to the base camp faster after walking for hours. The views become a blessing when you are tired of walking.

Annapurna Sanctuary is the highlight of the trek as you will find yourself walking inside the sanctuary most of the time. You may encounter some unique flora and fauna which is very popular in the region. If lucky you may also see some rare species too.

The actual trek starts from Nyapul after half an hour’s drive from Pokhara city. Annapurna region is full of Gurung, Thakali, and Magar communities. Hence you can get some insight into their culture and lifestyle. Another main highlight of this journey is the popular viewpoint of Poonhill. Here you can have a clear view of sky-piercing mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day
As you arrive in Kathmnadu, your guide will pick you up and escort you to the hotel for check in. You will be informed about your plans further. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing Tour in Kathmandu and Trek preparation
After breakfast, we take a tour to Kathmandu valley which includes sightseeing of cultural heritages i.e. Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath stupa and Bhaktapur Durbar square. After sightseeing, we check our equipment requirements for the trek and make necessary preparation for the trek. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu..
Day 3: Drive/ Fly to Pokhara
You can either fly or drive to Pokhara at you will. You guide will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to airport or bus station. We take a tourist bus and drive along the Trishuli river. The scenery along the route is dramatic as we can enjoy the views of river, valleys, cascading rice terraces and rocky gorges. As we arrive in Pokhara, we check in the hotel. In the evening, you may enjoy leisure boating on the serene Fewa Lake and see the reflection of the Mount Machhapuchhre and Annapurna Range on the crystal clear water of the Lake. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.
Day 4: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga
Today we begin our trekking journey at Nayapul, after an hour drive on a private vehicle from Pokhara. After a short 15-minute walk along the banks of the Modi Khola, we reach Birethanti (1,015m), a large village with many shops and teahouses. The trail continues through the village and follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. The trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille at 1,495m. After a short climb, we reach Tikhedhunga at 1,570m. Today's walk is relatively short and easy, a prelude to the trekking experience in the Annapurna region. Overnight at guesthouse in Tikhedhunga.
Day 5: Trek to Ghorepani
Today our trail crosses a stream on a suspension bridge near the camp site at Tikhe Dhunga. Then we ascend up a steep stone staircase to the large Magar village called Ulleri. Our trail climbs up gently through pastures and cultivated fields above the village. We then crosses two sparkling streams and make a short and final climb to Nangethanti. From Nangethanti we follow our steps up until we reach Ghorepani at 2850m. As we reach Ghorepani, we can see the panoramic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri I, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli right before our eyes. Overnight at guesthouse in Ghorepani.
Day 6: Hike up to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani
We wake up early in the morning and hike up to Poon Hill for the sunrise view. Poon hill is a famous vantage point where we will be able see a glorious sunrise amidst the Himalayas. The views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fishtail, and others from this point is spectacular. After visiting Poonhill, we will descend down to Ghorepani, and continue our trek to Tadapani. Overnight at guesthouse in Tadapani.
Day 7: Trek to Chhomrong
Leaving Tadapani, we descend down steeply through the forests to Chhomrong. Chhomrong is a small Gurung village in the Annapurna region. Overnight at guesthouse in Chhomrong.
Day 8: Trek to Himalaya Hotel
We descend down to Chhomrong Khola and continue our climb up to Khuldighar. We cross a check post from where our trek descends down continuously to Dovan. Then, we climb up through bamboo and rhododendron forests to Hotel Himalaya Overnight at a guesthouse in Dovan.
Day 9: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp
We continue our trail to Hinko and then to Deurali. Deurali is a stretch of trail that is most subject to avalanche. From Deurali, our trail climbs up to the Machhapuchhre Base Camp and then to Annapurna Base Camp. Since, the base camp area is totally surrounded by mountain, it is also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. From the base camp, the views of the mountain is spectacular. Overnight at guesthouse in Annapurna Base Camp.
Day 10: Trek back to Bamboo
Today we explore the hidden valley and trek back to Bamboo for overnight halt. Overnight at a guesthouse in Bamboo.
Day 11: Trek to Jhinu hot spring
We continue our trail along the fields and forests to Jhinu hot spring. Overnight at a guesthouse in Jhinu hot spring.
Day 12: Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara
We retrace our journey back to Nayapul. We pass the same terraced farmlands and villages to Nayapul. From Nayapul, we take a short drive to Pokhara. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.
Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu
We drive back to Kathmandu along the scenic route of Trishuli river. Overnight at ahotel in Kathmandu.
Day 14: Departure Day
You guide will transfer you to the airport for your journey ahead.
